Beaumaris Rowing Club made the relatively short trip to Porthmadog for the Welsh Sea Rowing North League race, with twenty four rowers making up two crews in the Ladies race, three in the Seniors and a fab four in the Mixed. Bright sunshine and light winds promised excellent conditions with Madoc Yacht Club as always providing a fantastic venue for the day's racing.

The Ladies were first out, fighting a rising tide past Borth y Guest before turning on a single buoy and speeding back.  Our first boat home was the Open crew in a very respectable fifth place overall, while the SuperVets put in a commendable performance to finish second in their class.

Next up was the Seniors race with the Vets boat 'Menai' eyeing a race win and our two SuperVet crews in 'Seiriol' and 'Cybi' looking to bag some points for BRC.  Menai put in a blistering performance to romp round the 5.7 kilometre course in 31:18 and claim the overall win, a fantastic result for BRC.  Not to be outdone 'Seiriol' delivered some great rowing to come home third overall and bring back the SuperVet trophy as class winners. 'Cybi' rowed valiantly to complete the trio and secure more valuable points for the club.

After a brief recovery period all four Beaumaris boats were back on the water, taking on a large field in the Mixed race. 'Menai' once again showed her strength, taking a wide line after the buoy turn and heading home over the sandbanks to avoid the strong ebb tide. This bold strategy surprised the safety boats who were half expecting 'Menai' to be left high and dry judging by the comms over the radio.

However, fortune favoured the brave in this instance as the crew powered past the boats in front to claim victory in a time of 35:55.  The crew of 'Cybi,' competing in the Open category, also showed their strength to claim a fantastic category win with fourth place overall in a time of 36:32. 'Seiriol' and 'Siwan', both SuperVet crews, rowed well to finish 9th and 12th overall.

After the usual post-race refreshments the results and presentation were greatly enjoyed by the large Beaumaris contingent, picking up prizes for two overall wins and two category wins to cap a highly enjoyable day. Many thanks to everyone involved at MYC for running a great event!
