The iconic Puffin Island Race will be held once again this year on Saturday 9th May.

The 17.5km (11 miles) race is one of the most popular days on the Welsh Sea Rowing calendar due to the dramatic scenery and abundant wildlife on this beautiful stretch of water.

The race starts in the historic town of Beaumaris

Starting in the historic town of Beaumaris within sight of its magnificent castle, the race runs along the Menai Strait passing ice age boulders and upturned shipwrecks on the island side and in the shadow of the majestic Carneddau mountains on the mainland.

Having circumnavigated Puffin Island with its colony of seals and dramatic cliffs full of cormorants, shags and, of course, puffins, the race passes the much photographed Trwyn Du lighthouse before heading back to the finish line in front of the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club in Beaumaris.

Refreshments are provided in the club including breakfast andf hot drinks before the race and hot ffod and cakes before the presentation of prizes..

For any clubs wishing to make a weekend of it in Beaumaris, the town has its fair share of hotels, bed & breakfast and self catering options and there are several eateries and pubs in the town to make your weekend complete.
