Tidal Energy Project: The work piles through!

Writer's picture: Justin StarbuckJustin Starbuck

I attended a drop-in session yesterday in Holyhead. The work is now well underway. If you are visiting South Stack/Ynys Lawd look at the field opposite the turning and you will see a worksite with large metal containers, this is where they have started to drill down the pipe which will eventually end up in the sea past South Stack,. The cables will reach as far as the Parc Cybi site as you enter Holyhead, where there will be a transformer station to plug the energy into something (?). It is estimated that this project will supply half of Anglesey's energy needs. There is a lot of interest in this project from other coastal countries. As the work progresses there is ongoing monitoring of marine life to ensure the project does not cause any adverse impact in the short or long term.

If you are interested to know more, here are some links to the website and Youtube info - pity the info is a bit out of date as they have now moved on from the consent phase - but interesting nevertheless.
